The Wall Street Journal put Speaker of the House John Boehner on notice today via a hard-nosed editorial railing about the GOP squandering its biggest majority since the 1920s.

Rupert Murdoch's paper isn't happy. It called the Republican party's ham-fisted bid to overturn President Obama's order to end the deportation of five million illegal immigrants its "latest mental breakdown." Ouch!

Admittedly, Big John was dealt a tough hand. That big GOP majority includes 52 Republican Congressmen, who are RINOs (e.g., Republicans in Name Only). They should be identified for what they are, charter members of the Tea Party at odds with Boehner and what's left of the mainstream GOP. A small majority would have been much more workable for the Speaker.

If Boehner wants to make any progress in Washington, he's going to have to deal with reality and work with Democrats and leader Nancy Pelosi, who is viewed as the devil by the Tea Party crowd.

After watching the Republicans club each last week over funding the Dept. of Homeland Security, Pelosi graciously agreed to a one-week funding bill, hiking the pressure on Boehner to line up GOP support for longer term funding.

IA potential shutdown of DHK, which is the second largest federal agency and leader in keeping the nation on guard against terror attacks, would be an utter disaster for Boehner and the GOP. It would also fuel a move to oust the Ohio Republican from his leadership post.

The WSJ referred to the Tea Party faction as "Cliff Marchers," who are more interested in pleasing radio talk show hosts, rather than achieving conservative victories.

Those Cliff Marchers may find themselves falling into the chasm following the 2016 election.

They will be able to look up at the top of the cliff and to see the smiling new Speaker of the House Pelosi.
