Mending Your Relationship

If you did sign up on Ashley Madison because you wanted to have an affair, unbeknownst to your spouse, the damage to your own public reputation and your company's brand could pale in comparison to the very real damage to your marriage.

Relationship coach Fran Greene, author of The Flirting Bible and former Director of Flirting at Match.com, recommends coming clean to your spouse even if you never actually cheated on them.

"Regardless if the man has actually cheated or not, it's the same betrayal, and the trust of the marriage has been violated," she explains. Whether or not he's actually cheated may not make much of a difference to that breach of trust. "Once you feel that your spouse has cheated or has the intention of cheating, everything changes completely."

This doesn't mean the relationship is necessarily over, though. It can be an opportunity to work on the relationship. Whether or not that's the case, Greene says, "trying to hide it or lie about it will just prolong the agony or make it impossible to rebuild trust."
