Snapchat, the mobile messaging platform, is on a tear. Fresh off a new round of funding late last year, this CEA member has generated countless news articles and immense online buzz in recent months.

With its launch this year of “Discover,” which brings major publishers like National Geographic and Vice to the apps’ millions of users, more brands are considering it as a potential opportunity to reach their audiences.

And, no surprise, the technology industry is a natural pioneer. During the 2015 CES, in fact, Snapchat published a “story” called “Techies in Vegas,” which curated interesting and relevant posts from attendees at the show.  The posts included everything from photos to funny videos.

We took a dive into the world of Snapchat to see what tech companies and thought leaders are doing with the platform. Here’s what we found…

GE

General Electric, another CEA member, celebrates its rich history and love of science with periodic posts. Recently they promoted National Engineers Week. As GE aims to reach a younger audience, creating content that attracts future employees in a natural opportunity.

Audi

The auto company Audi (whose CEO Rupert Stadler will keynote at CES Asia in Shanghai in May) jumped into the Snapchat game last year with a major promotion during the NFL’s “big game.” The brand’s creative agency called it the “world’s first successful Snapchat campaign at scale.” The campaign took a playful and fun approach using stock photos and funny captions.

The Verge

One of the leading innovators in the media space, The Verge uses Snapchat to highlight content on their website, show their writers’ personalities and generally grow engagement around their brand.

An early Snapchat adopter, Intel, a CEA member and CES regular, used the app last year to share a history of the company.

Mashable

Mashable is another tech media brand on Snapchat, and they are using it to grow awareness around their content. Recently they created a special program with the Internet’s favorite physicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, who answered questions from Snapchat users.

Non-Tech Bonus Brand!

Taco Bell
Snapchat ID: TacoBell
The delicious fast food restaurant Taco Bell is perhaps the reigning brand on Snapchat. It’s the brand many marketers turn too when they want to see how big companies are using Snapchat to promote products. Catering to its youthful audience, you’re likely to see creative snaps about Taco Bell’s food that are like carefully tailored TV advertisements for this modern age.
