Internship season is upon us once again; when college students around the country trade their sweatshirts for button downs and classrooms for cubicles. The Ad Council recently welcomed nine summer interns into the various departments of the company. To shed some light on what it is like to intern for the Ad Council, we will be featuring one intern each week on Adlibbing.

1. Where do you go to school and what are you studying?

I go to Colby College in Waterville, ME where I am a Government/Education Double Major.

2. What is your favorite social media platform and why?

My favorite social media campaign is undoubtedly Instagram. Where Facebook is entirely too mainstream and Twitter is the ode to self-importance, Instagram is the happy medium where creativity and connection unite. Having the opportunity to keep up with my friends and celebrities in a unique personal way gives a nice insight into the things that are going on in my friends? lives. It?s especially good for the friends that I?m not going to see much, but am certainly interested in keeping up with.

3. What is the social issue you are the most passionate about?

I?m extremely passionate about the present Education gap that exists in the United States. Socio-economic differences have led to a huge dichotomy in the quality of education that?s available to students, and as a result, their overall ability to succeed is made more difficult as well. I work as an SAT Prep Site Director as a means of contributing to the cause of giving students an opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background.

4. What is your favorite Ad Council campaign?

My favorite Ad Council campaign is easily the text and drive campaign. So many times I am in a car while my friends completely take their eyes of the road (sometimes highway), to send out text messages and check SnapChats. It?s one of the most dangerous feelings in the entire world when the car spins a bit and the driver has no idea what?s going on. The campaign makes the realities of this dangerous activity proliferate in a really profound way.

5. What is one of your lesser-known talents?

Not many people are aware that I am a musician. I play the piano, and I?m relatively competent on both the bass and drums.
