Los Angeles, CA - Aug 27, 2015 - Significant policy enhancements just unveiled by leading long term care insurance companies will benefit consumers according to national planning experts.

"The newest long term care insurance policy changes will benefit both single individuals as well as married couples addressing many of the things consumers have been asking for," explains Jesse Slome, director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, a national trade group.

Some of the changes include discounts for married couples where only one person can health qualify for insurance protection.  "This is significant because the couples or partner discount reduces policy costs for a couple but often one spouse has health issues that prevents them from obtaining LTC coverage," Slome explains.

"One of the newer enhancements just being added by a leading insurer is a refund of premiums if the policyholder dies before a certain age," Slome adds.  "This provides consumers with the 'if you don't use it, you don't lose it' benefit that makes buying the policy more attractive especially to those in their 50s."

Slome notes that today's long term care insurance policies can be dramatically different from those sold a few years ago.  "Take the inflation growth option which can double or triple the cost of protection," the national expert notes.  "Newer plans offer greater options that will save the consumer money and, at the same time, give them the flexibility to increase their insurance coverage in future years."

"We are seeing greater interest in long-term care planning and the newer policy enhancements will benefit many people," shares George Mellendorf, president of LTC Solutions, a leading national distributor of long term care insurance policies.  "With leading companies like Genworth, Mutual of Omaha, MedAmerica, Transamerica and LifeSecure making continual improvements that benefit consumers, the future looks very promising for this industry."
