Attract the Right Job or Clientele:  More Travel Observations for Business

Day two of our travels, and drawn in by friends along with overhearing strangers talk about a particular play, Kinky Boots, we were prepared to purchase tickets to see it.  The very long wait for discounted tickets at the Time Square box office had us venturing over to another part of town where another similar ticket office was built.  There was only one person in front of us.  We quickly purchased the desired tickets allowing for the remainder of the day to be enjoyed.

An historic neighborhood was in the vicinity.  The exteriors of the buildings are preserved while the interiors are being updated to become a very trendy neighborhood, not too far from Wall Street.  Some of the placards on the buildings date back to over 250 years.  For a former Californian, that’s history!

We were soon learned that reservations are needed a month ahead to be able to visit the museum located in the Statue of Liberty.  Instead, the time was spent walking over to see the new World Trade Center Tower, and the memorial built to remember those we lost in 9/11.  It was a moving experience.  The Tower itself is exquisite and an architectural masterpiece.  Viewing it from one side, the top appears to be a triangle, while viewing the top from the other sides, it appears quite differently.

Evening came and we were seated to see Kinky Boots.  To my surprise, not knowing much about it, the theme was centered on a business that has gone out of favor.  Not wanting to ruin the surprise of seeing it, I’ll just add that there are so many wonderful business questions and answers presented in addition to the joy-filled singing and dancing. The last number brought not one, but two standing ovations.

Lessons for Business and Career:

  1. Planning your day for business in a way that maximizes efficiencies is key for obtaining your goals.
  2. Should you need to update your plan, preserve the best of what you have and incorporate the new so it blends well.
  3. Plan B is always a good idea and appreciate your time no matter what happens.
  4. The need for Plan B is sometimes a gift; the day we wanted to visit the Statue of Liberty was the day there was a bomb scare at that location.
  5. Business is built about delivering excellence.  Establishing good word of mouth based upon a personal brand and branding effort will bring larger followings and many types of audiences.
