At Death's Door just got some major press coverage during filming for a TV pilot at the Heywood Hospital in Gardner, Massachusetts. The TV pilot is based on the book of the same name by Sebastian Sepulveda with Gini Graham Scott to be published by Rowman & Littlefield in March 2017 – about the time the TV series may begin airing.
In the article: "Actors, cameras, take over Heywood Hospital space for a TV pilot on one doctor's cause: caring for patients in their final days" by Peter Jaskinski, both photos and video clips capture the excitement of the film shoot. As the article describes, a section of the hospital's third floor was transformed into the setting for the TV series which is based on the life of Dr. Sebastian Sepulveda, a Chelmsford-based nephrologist and primary care physician who has spent much of his career in end-of life care. Uniquely, this is the first show about doctors where all of the patients die, and it explores what doctors do to ease the transition for patients and their families in these final moments.
The lead doctor in the series, based on Dr. Sepulveda's life, is played by Enrico Colantoni, who previously starred in the NBC series "Just Shoot Me" and the CW series "Veronica Mars" The directors and producers for the series are Jack Skyyler and Alex Zinzopolous in a co-production by Changemakers Productions and Dear Skyyler Productions. Changemakers Productions is headed by Gini Graham Scott, who is the script writer and an executive producer, along with Dr. Sepulveda.
The series is being pitched to CBS, Netflix, and several other networks once filming is completed. While At Death's Door is currently planned as a miniseries, it might be expanded to multiple seasons. Gini Graham Scott will be assisting with media relations for both the TV show and the book.
