Former Branch 84 President Joyce Rock dies

Joyce Rock died on Jan. 18 after a short battle with cancer.

Sister Rock started her letter carrier career in 1987. She was a member of Pittsburgh, PA Branch 84 where she served as a shop steward from 1994-2004. She also served as Branch 84’s treasurer from 2001-2004, when she was elected branch vice president. She was elected executive vice president of the branch in 2007 and became president in 2008.  

In addition to her branch service, Rock served as a board member and later as president of the Pennsylvania State Association of Letter Carriers. She was the first woman to serve as president of Branch 84 and on the board of the state association. She retired in 2009 after a 22-year career.

Rock is survived by her husband George, her son George, and two grandchildren. She was 69.  

“Sister Rock was a trailblazer for future leaders of Branch 84 and in Pennsylvania,” NALC President Brian L. Renfroe said. “On behalf of NALC, I appreciate Joyce’s years of dedicated service and send my condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.”
