US and allied service members are set to be out of Afghanistan by early to mid-July, well ahead of President Biden’s Sept. 11 deadline. (NYT report) Over 8,000 American service members are estimated to have died in Iraq and Afghanistan, with hundreds of thousands wounded in visible and invisible ways.
Twenty years of war in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Pakistan have cost American taxpayers over $6 trillion according to the Watson Institute of International and Public Affairs at Brown University. More than 800,000 people have died as a direct result of fighting. (Brown COW).
