Maybe on Dec. 30/31, instead of looking at what’s ahead and making usually-failed resolutions, we should for a change look in the rear-view mirror at the past year and determine what we should build on still more, what we need to change, and what we need to stop doing. Those may appear to be “resolutions” but they’re actually determinations based on the empirical evidence of our success or lack thereof in various pursuits in the recent past.
We’re not supposed to look at the wake of the boat, but that’s where I’ve seen both things that have fallen overboard and porpoises that are leaping with joy. Our refusal to look at the past is also our refusal to learn from it.
Your choice.
