Attract the Right Job Or Clientele:

Make A Team Victory Your Ultimate Goal

Whether an entrepreneur, manager, or CEO of a large corporation, unless you make a team victory your forever goal, there will be much costly turnover. So, how can you accomplish team unity that begets loyalty?

My Story

It wasn’t until my fourth job that I felt treated as an equal to the salesmen, but only after I spent most of the year proving my ability while earning money solely on 100% commission due to the horrific pay inequity.

By the end of the year, President’s Club and recognition were finally mine and highly enjoyable. However, the glory quickly faded upon realizing ‘Here we go again’ upon the company selling to another corporate conglomerate with unspeakable pay inequity.

In the entrepreneurial sector, each person needs to be wary of requests, particularly those that appear one-sided. My philosophy is to ‘speak up or forever hold your peace.’ However, speaking up to resolve issues requires calm, diplomacy, and asking many questions to determine what does not stand up proudly in our minds.

‘Fairness, equity, inclusion, diversity, and respect are the most pressing issues.’

Volunteer Appreciation or Lack Thereof?

Volunteering abounds in many varieties alongside many companies. Typically, reimbursement is not in the equation, but a unique circumstance or request occasionally suggests serious reconsideration of compensation.

Companies benefitting by employing volunteers must realize that they contribute due to their belief in the mission. However, many also need to work on behalf of family and necessities. It’s essential to balance the expectations of volunteers with the reality of time consumption and the need for reimbursement.

The lack of appreciation and increased demands will only create high turnover, like the unfavorable corporate experience. Companies lose much when facing ‘the revolving door syndrome,’ including profits in their bottom line. Similarly, non-profits will lose out on the value of their time, needing to seek out new volunteers and invest the time to train.

Your Story: Make A Team Victory Your Ultimate Goal

It’s a rare individual who never dealt with a poor corporate experience. Before making requests for volunteers, mentally review what it felt like not to be treated respectfully or equitably; now, revise your plan for expectations of forthcoming volunteers.

– Ensure your requests are fair and include training to help everyone further their endeavors.

– Like employees, encourage long-term service by showing appreciation in varying ways.

– Considering volunteers’ benefits and the need for extra work, pay them accordingly.

Realize that the volunteer experience may grow into internships for some with modest pay, who will then become loyal employees. The volunteer process with good faith can grow into greater recognition for the organization or company and benefit everyone, defining a team victory for all.

In Conclusion: Make A Team Victory Your Ultimate Goal

Any organization, for-profit or non-profit that depends upon volunteers will do its best to respect those in its charge, train them well, and make the time spent favorable to all.
