The Capital Region Minority Supplier Development Council (CRMSDC) today announced the finalists and winners of their annual awards recognizing the region's individuals, corporations and minority businesses that have made outstanding contributions in supporting the Council's mission of advancing Asian, Black, Hispanic and Native American suppliers in a globalized corporate supply chain.

CRMSDC Chairman, Roland L. Jones, will be announcing the winners and presenting these awards, at the Council's 35th annualLeaders and Legends Awards Ceremony being held September 30th, at the Clarice Smith Center for Performing Arts, Dekelboum Theater, on the University of Maryland, College Park's campus.

This year, for the first time, the CRMSDC is combining the award ceremony with the 9th annual Top 100 MBE Awards. The Top 100 MBE Awards, began in 2007 and evolved through a need to recognize and celebrate the creativity and innovation of regional MBEs who are role models and inspire the entire community.

Tony Jimenez, President and CEO of MicroTech, the recipient of the Council's highest honor, the Reginald F. Lewis Lifetime Achievement Award. This award is given to an individual who is considered to most closely walking the path paved by Reginald Lewis, an entrepreneurial legend, brilliant financier and business manager, left a roster of accomplishments that compares to those of any great man in history.

Reginald F. Lewis, for whom the award is named after, passed away in 1993 after complications from brain cancer, had a penchant for deal making and an astute business sense. He cemented his legacy with the $985 million acquisition of TLC Beatrice Foods Co. It wasn't long before the new company, TLC Beatrice International, reported gross sales of $1.8 billion, making it the first black-owned company to pass the billion-dollar revenue mark. The deal solidified Lewis' prowess, brought wide media attention, and Lewis became the first African-American businessman to be included in Forbes magazine's list of the nation's 400 wealthiest people.

The Capital Region Council, founded in 1972, serves Maryland, the District of Columbia and Norther Virginia.  "The Council acts as a bridge between corporations and MBEs, facilitating the type of relationships that benefit both council members and the national economy. ", said Jones.
