Dr. Aline Zoldbrod (aka "Dr. Z") is a nationally and internationally acknowledged authority in sexuality and relationships. Besides being a psychologist with thirty years worth of clinical experience, insight, and fascinating stories, she is a lecturer, commentator, three time author, and was IVillage's expert on Mismatched Libidos message board. Acknowledged as the originator of the interpersonal theory of sexual development, The Milestones of Sexual Development, Zoldbrod's theory explains how non-sexual aspects of family life profoundly define sexual personality, the development (or not) of sexual pleasure, and sexual functioning.
Zoldbrod's theory is in stark contrast to the prevailing trend to look at sexuality and sexual problems as mostly physical phenomena which can be manipulated with hormones and pills.
Dr. Zoldbrod is not afraid to take a stand, commenting on the issues of the day, whether that be pornography , privacy, pick-up-lines, penis enlargement, asexuality, the mommy wars, sneezing fetishists, materialism, aging, Viagra, dating rituals, or sexless marriages. Witty, bright, down to earth, and opinionated, she is frequently quoted about sexuality, relationships, anxiety, family life, and men's and women's issues in the national media, including:
AARP Magazine, AARP Bulletin, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Boston Globe, The Boston Globe Magazine, The Boston Herald, The Boston Phoenix, Boston Magazine, Bride's Magazine, The Chicago Tribune, Cosmopolitan Magazine, The Courier Mail (Australia), Elegant Wedding Magazine, Esquire, Fit Pregnancy Magazine, First for Women, Fortune Magazine, Glamour, The Improper Bostonian, Ladies Home Journal, Men's Health, Men's Fitness, The New York Times, Oprah, Parents Magazine, Penthouse, Redbook, The Sacramento Bee, Seventeen, Self, Shape, The Oakland Tribune, The Nation (Thailand), The LA Times, Time, The Toronto Sun (Canada), Vive Magazine, US News and World Report, USAToday, The Weekly Observer (Uganda), Women's Health, and The Washington Post, The Week.
She has appeared on more than 100 radio stations, including Canadian, Irish, and British radio.
Dr. Zoldbrod has a national reputation among her peers in sex therapy. An AASECT (American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists) certified sex therapist, she is author of three books, including the award winning book Sex Smart: How Your Childhood Shaped Your Sexual Life and What to Do About It (New Harbinger,1998 and now Page Free Publishing), which won ForeWord Magazine's award for being one of the top three self help books of the year. She co-wrote Sex Talk (New Harbinger, 2002, with Lauren Dockett), and published Men, Women and Infertility: Intervention and Treatment Strategies (Macmillan, 1993), as well as two chapters in medical textbooks and several articles in refereed journals.
Dr. Z graduated Phi Beta Kappa with high honors in sociology and anthropology from Oberlin College and got her Ph.D. from Brandeis University, where she was awarded National Institute of Health prize money to pursue her doctoral research. Currently, she is the Consultant Sex Therapist for the Center for Sexual Function, Lahey Clinic North, in Peabody, Massachusetts, and she also has a private practice in psychotherapy and sex therapy in Lexington, Massachusetts, where she sees individuals and couples.
