The International Coach Federation (ICF) is the leading global organization for coaches, with more than 20,000 members in more than 100 countries and more than 9,000 credentialed coaches worldwide. ICF is dedicated to advancing the coaching profession by setting high ethical standards, providing independent certification and building a worldwide network of credentialed coaches. Coaching is a distinct service and differs greatly from therapy, consulting, mentoring or training. ICF defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.
Organizations that engage professional coaches see measureable improvements in corporate culture. According to the 2009 ICF Global Coaching Client Study, 33 percent of clients who experienced business-related coaching experienced an overall improvement in corporate culture. Clients also reported improved teamwork (13 percent), communication (9 percent), employee performance/skills (7 percent) and leadership skills (6 percent).
Individuals who undergo coaching also experience numerous impacts that directly relate to employee productivity, morale and satisfaction. Global Coaching Client Study participants reported coaching benefits including improved self-confidence (80 percent), communication skills (72 percent), work performance (70 percent), work-life balance (67 percent), business management (61 percent) and time management (57 percent)
Research shows that the growing global community of professional coaches is helping organizations and individuals achieve their goals, with coaching offering a high return on investment: According to the Global Coaching Client Study, 86 percent of organizations report that they at least made back their investment in coaching, and 99 percent of coaching clients say that they were somewhat or very satisfied with the experience.
