Free printable coloring pages provide teachers and homeschooling parents with a fun, visual way to help children learn about Labor Day.

The Web sites FreeColoringSheets.net and FreePrintableColoringPages.net offer thousands of coloring pages, including themes such as job coloring pages and coloring pages about community-based careers such as firefighters and police officers.

Labor Day, celebrated on the first Monday in September, falls on Sept. 7 in 2009. The holiday celebrates working people in the United States as well as the rights that have been realized largely due to the efforts of organized labor groups.

"These coloring page sites have designs for practically every occasion, and Labor Day is no exception," said Kevin Savetz, the sites' creator. "I hope the occupation-themed coloring pages will be useful to teachers and they work to educate young people on the history and impact of the Labor Day holiday."

Among the occupations originally honored on Labor Day, which was first celebrated in the United States in 1882, are skilled and industrial laborers. FreePrintableColoringPages.net has construction coloring pages along with other occupational themes.
