| Upward African Women (UAW), a California based 501c3 that was founded in 2014 by Princess Monalisa Okojie. Her objective was to establish and support programs that directly dealt with poverty, illiteracy, disease, and hopelessness as to improve the overall wellbeing of the Afrikan woman and child in Africa and the United States. Since its inception, UAW has provided services for more than 1500 women and children with no signs of slowing down. These recipients are primarily the victims of cultural, mental, sexual abuse and neglect. When asked about relations between American Blacks and Blacks in the homeland of Afrika, Princess Okojie explains, “What can I say? It’s been a rough relationship, but I think it’s getting better. As Far as I’m concerned, I truly feel diplomacy works. So all of the leaders need to do weather in Afrika or here, they just need to talk. Arrive at an agreement then all is well. Yes, I believe the relationship is getting better especially with Afrikan Americans because now they all want to go back to the motherland. They are traveling a lot and they found out that every time they go back, people are embracing them and they are so surprised about it. So with that aspect, the relationship is getting better. Princess Okojie is an attorney, entrepreneur and philanthropist from Nigeria, the giant of Afrika.
