Welcome to the June 2013 Put Old on Hold e-Magazine!
Hi Everyone,
Open the e-Magazine here -- but first . . .
Discount List: If you have not seen a list of discounts available for restaurants, supermarkets, and other outlets, it's included in the newsletter. It's extensive and well worth a look. If you know who created the list, please let me know so proper credit can be given.
Video: An 86-yr old female gymnast shows what she can do on the parallel bars. If you think you can't be strong and flexible in your older years, watch the video and be inspried. The key is to discipline yourself to exercise regularly as early in life as possible; the payoff can be phenomenal. When those around you are in decline, it's great to be able to take care of yourself and thave the ability to be of service to others.
Thanks to Ann Herzer for sending the video as well as a brief, funny piece on
"Why going on cruises is cheaper (with more amenities) than a nursing home." Cute and Adorable: Have you been called "cute" or "adorable"? Do people speak to you as if you are senile or deaf? If you haven't experienced it yet, sooner or later you will. Please read my article as well as Lura Zerick's article. We are is a tizzy about it.
"Off Their Rockers": And speaking of being in a tizzy, I am fired up about Betty White's "Off Their Rockers" TV Show that gives the impression old people become senile fools. It appears you can demean anyone if you are doing it under the guise of "being funny." The show is NOT funny or cute. I've written about it, and I'm including some of the feedback I've received in response to the query I made about the show. If you are on the fence about the show, or think it's cute or funny, please read my rant and the comments from others to see why we are so offended.
Love Fraud: Doing online dating? Recently I came across Donna Andersen's blog with an article about the perils of online dating for boomers and seniors. Donna is author of
Love Fraud, and more recently,
Red Flags of Love Fraud --"must reads" for anyone looking for love online or dealing with a guy who is a scoundrel (or worse). I have included Donna's article this month with her permission.. It's sobering advice.
Sandy Dumont's New Book: Internationally recognized image consultant, Sandy Dumont (The Image Architect) has a new book, Color Me Correctly, Please that will change your mind about everything you ever thought you knew about color, makeup, and how to dress for success. When I started to read the book it was my intention to speed read through it but it didn't take long for me to take time and think about and appreciate Sandy's expertise, page by page. The time and effort she has put into Color Me Correctly, Pleaseis amazing. There are lots of before and after photos, color swatches and you can order a kit to help you determine your best colors. They may be radically different from what you think they are. Download the book
here.
Again, here is the link to open the e-Magazine Till next time,
