Is there such a thing as being ‘a little drunk’?

Underage drinking–When going from being sober to tipsy or buzzed, there is a point when you are beginning to feel the effects of alcohol. This could be after 1-2 drinks per hour for women and 2-3 drinks per hour for men. This also depends on:

  1. Your past experience with alcohol
  2. How much food is in your stomach?
  3. How much you weigh Healthline.com

What is tipsy?

Being tipsy is the first sign that the alcohol you’re drinking is having an effect on your body. This tipsiness begins when alcohol enters the bloodstream and starts to affect the functions of both your brain and your body. When a person becomes tipsy, they:

  • Become more talkative and seem more self-confident.
  • Are likely to show risky behavior and their speech and reactions slow down.
  • Have a shorter attention span and poor short-term memory.

Will eating or drinking water help you sober up?

It’s true that eating before, during, and after drinking can help slow the absorption of alcohol into the bloodstream. Drinking plenty of water can assist with dehydration and help flush toxins from the body.

Also, drinking fruit juices can help the liver flush out alcohol more successfully.

Although these methods can help process alcohol, they do not affect signs of drunkenness or bring down your BAC level. Medical News Today

Should I go sleep it off?

Yes, sleep is the best way for a person to sober up. Sleep allows the body to rest and recover. It also helps to restore the body’s ability to remove alcohol out of the system.

Even a quick nap can help. But the more sleep a person gets, the more sober they will feel, and time gives the liver the chance to absorb the alcohol. Medical News Today

Can you drive after you have a few beers?

Although beer has less alcohol than wine or other drinks, even a couple of drinks will affect your ability to do two tasks at once – like steering a car and quickly putting on the brakes.

Even small amounts of alcohol will affect your ability to watch out for other moving cars. This could also mean that you won’t accurately judge your distance from other vehicles. Or, that you fail to spot hazards, like a child or animal in the road. Renegade Brewing

Blood alcohol content (BAC) is the unit used to measure the amount of alcohol in a person’s bloodstream.

If you are with someone who has been drinking, do not get into the car with them. It doesn’t matter what they say. You might hear the words, “I’m okay to drive. I didn’t drink that much.”  Or they might say, “It’s been a while since I’ve had a drink. I’m sure I’m fine.” Or “Don’t worry about it, I can hold my liquor.” No! No! No! Don’t get into a car as a passenger with someone who has been drinking, period. State by State BAC

As defined by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), a standard drink is half an ounce of alcohol. That means one 12-ounce beer, one five-ounce glass of wine, and or 1.5-ounce shot of distilled spirits or hard liquor. Each of these count as one standard drink. But remember, for a minor, underage drinking is illegal, no mater what your BAC may show. The limit for minors is zero. How many drinks does it take? Utah percentage laws
