www.SFWritingforChange.org The
2012 San Francisco Writing for Change Conference was specifically created for writers of nonfiction who believe their writing can have a positive impact in the world. The idea is to give writers the knowledge, inspiration and power to publish their work. The SFW4C conference features important authors—including Paul Hawken (
Blessed Unrest and coauthor of
Natural Capitalism—called one of the most important books in the world by Bill Clinton), Dan Millman (
Way of the Peaceful Warrior), Cami Walker (
29 Gifts) who found her agent and editor at a previous SFW4C event, and Kirk Boyd (
2048: Humanity's Agreement to Live Together). All have indeed offered profoundly new ideas in their work and will inspire attendees. But the event's mission is to bring professionals who can help get a writer's work out to the public to the event—such as a variety of literary agents and editors from major publishing houses that specialized in nonfiction books including editorial director Georgia Hughes of New World Library and Managing Editorial Director Jeevan Sivasubramaniam of Berrett-Koehler. Self-publishing will be handled by Mark Coker, CEO of Smashwords.
The biannual event will be held September 15th for 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church with a no-host networking dinner to follow. The registration fee is $125 until Sept. 1 and $149 until sold out. Optional gourmet lunch is additional $20 and vegetarian lunches can be ordered. More details and registration are available at
www.SFWritingforChange.org.
The SFW4C event embraces topics as diverse as the environment, spirituality, politics, health, technology, personal growth, business and the economy. Conference co-founder Michael Larsen, said: "The right book will change the world and now is the best time ever to be a writer. The goal of the conference is to give writers the knowledge they need to write, sell, and promote their books." Larsen is a literary agent at Larsen-Pomada Literary Agents.
