[00:00:24] Hey everybody! It's Tom here with episode 947 of Screw the Commute podcast. This is part of our YouTube series with quick little changes that can really either keep you out of trouble with YouTube, or help you get more views and watch time. So this is episode 947. [00:01:25] Okay, here we go. So this is not for kids. It's called. And I'm going to tell you the how this works and why. You should make sure this is set correctly on whatever kind of videos you put out. And the way you get to this little section is you go to your YouTube studio, you go to content, you pick the video that you want to work on, and then you go to details. All right. Then you're going to scroll down till you see video details, slash audience. And there's going to be two choices there. Yes, it's made for kids. And no, it's not made for kids and kids is considered 13 years old Okay.

[00:02:13] And younger. Now, here's the thing about this. It's very important that you pick the right one, not only to keep you out of trouble. For instance, if you had an adult content video and it showed to kids, you can get fined enormous amounts of money, right? 40, 50,000 bucks. And I don't know if there's criminal things, you know. So you want to make sure if your content is not for kids, that you say, no, it's not made for kids. That seems simple, right? But here's another reason why it's very important is because besides the fact that you could get in trouble, that if your video is not made for kids and it shows for kids, the kids are not going to watch it. And so it's not going to look to the YouTube algorithm like this is a good video because nobody wants to watch it and vice versa. Let's say you had one that was made for kids. Well, you're not going to get in trouble for this one if if it's, uh, mis, You know, if you put, you say yes or no. It's not made for kids. If an adult watches it, great. Then nobody's going to get mad or fine you or put you in jail. Okay? But the thing is, is if it is made for kids, adults aren't going to want to watch it. And that's going to hurt your algorithm and your distribution of that video to show it to more people. See? So just make sure that if you have content that's made for kids, you say, yes, it's made for kids.

[00:03:49] If you don't, make sure it's checked. No, it's not made for kids. Now there's another section that you can open up and it's called age restriction. And the options there are yes it's restricted to over 18. And no don't restrict it. Well that way if you have adult content or, you know, kind of racy stuff, then you might want to make it. It's restricted to over 18. And again for sure you want to make sure that content is not shown to somebody under 13. All right. So restrict it. You got to be 18 or older. And at least you have said it and tried to to play the game properly. I'm sure these kids can lie about how old they are, but but that's a different problem. All right. So that's your not for kids. Make sure you have that set correct for each video you put out because you definitely don't want it showing to people. You don't want to see it because either they won't watch it and then that'll hurt your algorithm, or they will watch it and you get in trouble. Right? So there you go. Not for kids.
