SUMMARY BY CHATGPT
Topic: The importance of site-wide quality for SEO and how Google evaluates your website.
Key Points:
• Google's Ranking System: Google primarily ranks pages individually, but it also considers site-wide signals. A well-maintained site with consistent quality can positively influence page rankings.
• Quality Matters: Even if one page is strong, having poor content elsewhere on your site can impact how Google evaluates it. That said, bad site-wide quality won’t necessarily tank a good page—but it won’t help either.
• Tom’s Stance on SEO:
o He’s generally against spending too much time on SEO.
o He advocates for doing basic SEO on every page and building backlinks.
o Referenced episodes for deeper dives:
? #927 – Don’t waste time on SEO
? #469 – Basic SEO you must do
? #466 – The power of backlinks
? #980 – SEO vs AI
Recommendations:
• Do the basics (Episode 469): Good content, metadata, keywords.
• Get backlinks (Episode 466): Still a major ranking factor.
• Don’t over-rely on SEO: Google algorithm changes can wipe out your traffic.
• Invest in paid ads: Gives more control over traffic flow and results.
Final Thoughts:
Focus on building a high-quality, professional website. Don't obsess over SEO, but do enough to keep your site in good standing with Google. Paid ads are a more reliable way to generate traffic than trying to game search rankings.

Episode 983 – Site Wide Quality
[00:00:08] Welcome to Screw the Commute. The entrepreneurial podcast dedicated to getting you out of the car and into the money, with your host, lifelong entrepreneur and multimillionaire, Tom Antion.
[00:00:24] Hey everybody! It's Tom here with episode 983 of Screw the Commute podcast. Today we're going to talk about site wide quality and what Google thinks about your website when it comes to getting high rankings. All right. I hope you didn't miss episode 982. That was a little bit and a lot about your Wi-Fi system and how you can get better coverage and better speeds and so forth. I hope you didn't miss picking up a copy of my automation book. It's screwthecommute.com/automatefree and check out my mentor program at GreatInternetMarketingTraining.com. All right, now I'm generally against search engine optimization. If you've been listening to this for a while, you know that. But I am in favor of doing the basics, and I covered many of those basics and SEO related stuff in the following episodes. 927 was don't waste time on SEO. 469 is the basic stuff you need to do this on every time you create a page. 466 if you were going to do anything on SEO stuff, this would be it. And that's called backlinks. And 980 is another reason to nix SEO because of AI. All right. So anytime you want to get to a back episode, you go to screwthecommute.com, slash, then the episode number. I just rattled off 927 469, 466 and 980.
[00:02:04] All right. But here's one that I did not include. One basic thing that Google came out and said that we work on a page by page basis, but the whole your whole site is something we look at also. Now I'm going to read you something from Google's blog. Here it is. Our ranking systems are designed to work on the page level, using a variety of signals and systems to understand how to rank individual pages. Site wide signals and classifiers are also used and contribute to our understanding of pages. Having some good site wide signals does not mean that all content from a site will always rank highly. But just as having some poor site wide signals does not mean all the content from a site will rank poorly. All right, so let me break that down for you. So they're saying that, hey, our system is designed to rank an individual page. If somebody is looking for something specific, we want to find the best pages that give that that searcher the answer. And one of the things that they might look at is the rest of your website. If they can't make the decision, if their algorithm can't make the decision on that, on what's on that one page, they'll look at the rest of the site.
[00:03:42] Now, I'm always going to tell you to be quality and have quality on all the pages of your site. But they're also saying that even if they look at the rest of the site and it's not that great, that that doesn't mean they won't rank an individual page highly. So the best bet is always to have good professional pages on every page of your site. And that's where, especially episode 469, The Basics of SEO. So you you don't do things that shoot yourself in the foot. And also one of the overall ranking factors is backlinks. And I cover that on episode 466 through 466. So here's the thing. You still should do all the basics that I teach in 469 absolutely on every page of your website. And you should definitely pursue backlinks on that was episode 466. Screwthecommute.com/466. And it's going to give you the best chance of your pages eventually ranking, individual pages, eventually ranking because they are looking at your whole website. Now again, I think especially in episode 980, I talked about how, you know, Google's kind of they're being accused of screwing you over and not sending anybody to your website, taking your content. That's that'll end up in court for sure. But still, they are ranking pages, and you want yours to have the best chance of showing up.
[00:05:27] But I don't want you to kill yourself. I want you to do the basics. I want you to have a backlink program, and I don't want you to waste time on this. And I also want you to learn paid ads where you can turn traffic on and off on a dime, rather than working on SEO for six months and depending on it. And then you get a little bit of traction, and then somebody at Google turns a dial and you disappear off the face of the earth and lost six months worth of revenue. So I want you to concentrate on paid ads, but I want you to do this regular stuff so that your your site is professional in the eyes of Google, and that's always going to be a good thing. All right. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. We'll catch you on the next episode. Hey, check out my school. It's the only licensed, dedicated internet and digital marketing school in the country, probably the world. And it'll give you or your loved one a highly in-demand skill when as little as six months. So check it out at IMTCVA.org. Catch you on the next episode. See you later.
