Santa Claus reportedly showed up at several locations in and around Georgetown this weekend — much to the delight of wide-eyed children and believing adults, ready for Christmas.
At Volta Park on Saturday morning, Santa walked onto the basketball court, ho-hoing the kids, already lined up to sit on his lap. Santa — aka Tom Strike — saw almost everyone nice, as coffee and donuts were eaten and ornaments painted for the tree.
At Rose Park in the afternoon, Santa arrived at Rose Park in a fancy SUV with some kids in tow. The Grace Covenant Church offered coffee, hot cocoa — and “the hope of the world.” The market was open with fancy foods and gifts. Santa — aka Jared Jones — greeted the children and the dogs and was assisted by Mrs. Claus — aka Caroline Jones.
At the George Town Club, Santa — aka Tom Strike, again — was the big draw for Sunday brunch. Parents brought their kids dressed in their best Christmas fashions to old St. Nick, who was later joined by his family.
We hear that former Council member Jack Evans also played Santa, as he has done for years, at the Saint Mary Center in Foggy Bottom.
And so, as Tiny Tim observed, “God bless Us, Every One!”
