INDIANAPOLIS — The Society of Professional Journalists is honored to announce the 2024 recipients of The Liberty Awards. These awards, presented by SPJ, Flytedesk, the College Media Association and the Associated Collegiate Press, celebrate the best printed election previews distributed by campus newspapers ahead of today’s presidential election.

“SPJ is proud to recognize the campus journalists whose special election editions performed such a valuable service to their communities,” said Caroline Hendrie, SPJ’s executive director. “Providing accurate information to the public is at the core of the ethical journalism that SPJ promotes. Thanks to all entrants in the Liberty Awards and congratulations to the winners!”

The awards were judged by a panel of professional journalists in three categories:

– Four-year schools (public or private) over 10,000 students
– Four-year schools under 10,000 students
– Two-year schools

The 2024 Liberty Awards winners are:

Over 10,000 Enrollment

Baylor Lariat – Baylor University
Auburn Plainsman – Auburn University
Daily Titan – California State University Fullerton

Under 10,000 Enrollment

The Pendulum – Elon University
The Ithacan – Ithaca College
The Current Sauce – Northwestern State University of Louisiana

Two-Year Schools

The Collegian – Tarrant County College
The Torch – Bergen Community College
Agora – Monroe County Community College

Winners were announced at the National College Media Convention in New Orleans on Nov. 2. The first-place newsrooms received certificates and $250 cash prizes courtesy of Flytedesk.

SPJ champions journalists by recognizing outstanding achievement, fighting to protect press freedom, promoting high ethical standards and educating new generations of emerging professionals.
