John Martinka, as president-elect and fundraising chair for the Bellevue Breakfast Rotary club recently led a team that did a turnaround of the club's fundraising and set a club record for its annual fundraising. After switching to a 5K walk/run five years ago the event had stagnated. His team led a revitalization of the event by setting up a true organizationml structure, instilling energy and building teams which has led to increased club participation.
The project started in September 2010 when he held eight brainstorming sessions in which 70% of the club participated. Many ideas from the members were incorporated into the working plan and more members than ever contributed to the planning and organization of the event.
The results97`ve jnoYsded:
- Over tripling of the spjnsorship dollars including adding new sponsors Starbucks, The Microsoft Store, Overlake Hospital, The Y and Children's Hospital.
- Doubling the number of participants (runners and walkers).
- Tripling the net proceeds.
- Raising community awareness and building a strong foundation for future event growth.
