Bookstore Photo Shoot
Pizazz, POP, and Promo for Authors
This past weekend, a dozen authors joined me at the Lone Tree, Colorado store of Barnes & Noble. We sold lots of books that, in turn, will create moneys donated by Barnes & Noble to the Colorado Authors’ Hall of Fame Aspiring Authors Scholarships.
Throughout the day, I would pick up a few of their books and “casually” do a repositioning in the store, using some of the books—taking advantage of their already done signage. The purpose was to gather up photos that could be used on the author’s website, within a blog, in promo pushes, and of course, on social media.
It was a FIRST DAY for author Patricia Williams when she got the FIRST true sighting of her FIRST BOOK for consumers (her other 40 have been for her professional trade and education of peers). The cover design is gorgeous, instantly appealing and created by Rebecca Finkel of F&P Design.
Picking up a copy of Money – Get It. Save It. Grow It. from the table, I told Pat, “Come with me,” as we walked around the store. I knew what I was looking for … she wasn’t sure what I was doing but was game to just go along with me.
Moving around the store, we landed in the business section. Her new book was placed on the shelf—first, I wanted the Business sign … then we moved on to Personal Growth. Another photo. Next up—I spied the Must-Read Nonfiction … of course!
And the Tadah! … her first book sale!
Then I pulled up a few books from our author display of other AuthorYOU members—over a dozen books were featured. I had some fun with author Britt Gusmus’ The Oak Tree Source. Patricia Raybon’s All That Is Secret, and Linnea Tanner’s Curse of Clansmen and Kings series.
Several of the other authors saw what I was up to and set out to create their own photo promo shoot.
It’s your turn. Go to a bookstore. Tap into the already existing artwork that your bookstore has. Take three copies of your book. Prop your book in for your own photo shoot. Reveal it. Share it. Use it.
Suggestion … buy at least one book there … maybe it should be yours! Support the store … it’s a good thing.
