Patricia Bragg, called the First Lady of Natural Living, kicked off the centennial year for Bragg Live Foods by hosting a festive Hawaiian themed part on March 11 at the Marriott Hotel in conjunction with Natural Products Expo West at the Anaheim Convention Center. The party was not only held to commemorate 100 years of success in creating a successful line of natural organic foods and recipes, but also to honor the legacy of her father, Paul Bragg, who started the company in 1912 by opening a health store in Los Angeles and then went on to revolutionize the way we all look at food, exercise, supplements and much more.

Upon entering, having not seen or known of the exact preparations, Patricia Bragg beamed with joy as she was greeted by good friends and well-wishers. After making a few rounds to say hello to her guests, Patricia hit the dance floor as the fantastic twenty-piece jazz-swing band filled the room with great music. With walls covered by massive Hawaiian beach scene mosaics, the right side of the room had a massive screen which beamed a continuous slide show of photos chronicling Bragg Live Foods storied one-hundred year history. Between the band and screen a huge amount of white cupcakes were arranged into the numbers 100 to commemorate the anniversary. Palm leaf covered umbrellas added to the atmosphere as organic food and salads, with Bragg Salad Dressings, were supplemented by organic wine and beer for the festive crowd.

A terrific highlight, upon entering the Marquis Room at the Marriott, was the photo wall that chronicled the history of Paul and Patricia Bragg and Bragg Live Foods. Pictures of Paul Bragg, and their early products, presented a fascinating time line as they transitioned to Patricia and her amazing accomplishments in the natural food industry. As one perused the well-organized photo wall, the legacy, energy and accomplishments of the Bragg's became even more evident for those familiar, but not totally informed, of their story.

Paul Bragg, who suffered from tuberculosis as a teenager, took matters into his own hands and worked through the deadly illness with a self-designed eating and exercise program. Then he set about creating a revolution in the health industry and the photo wall brings this fascinating man to life as one sees him surfing in Hawaii, harvesting crops, exercising at the famed Muscle Beach, chopping wood, taking in the Pyramids of Egypt, wrestling with a bear, driving a race car or conducting the famed Bragg Exercise class which he founded in Waikiki, Hawaii and which Patricia still conducts to this day.

One really classic picture shows him, in 1920, on the beach with the Father of Modern Surfing, Duke Kuhanamoku. His connections with Hollywood were revealed with pictures of him cooking for Gloria Swanson, exercising with Vivian Leigh, hanging out with Joan Blondell and Will Rogers, or appearing as a guest on the Merv Griffin TV Show. Pictures of Patricia show her demonstrating products, exercising with her father, hanging with the cast of the Beverly Hillbillies TV Show, with her good friends Jack LaLanne, a student of her father's, actress Jane Russell, famed body builder and actor Lou Ferrigno and, course, conducting the famous Bragg exercise class in Waikiki.

This party celebrated the legacy of an amazing American family which has had a profound and beneficial effect on the whole world. Patricia Bragg carries on the work her father started with a passion that it totally evident in everything she does.

Congratulations, here is a video of Paul and Patricia Bragg conducting an exercise class on television.

The Bragg Health Institute was inspired in part by an educational program called "Bring a Farmer to School", in which Dr. Patricia Bragg, the Director of Health Science: Dr. John Westerdahl and Bragg's Organic

Farmers were invited to speak to children at the local elementary schools. The focus of the education outreach is to teach children about the importance of eating more organic fruits & vegetables and how organic farming plays an important role in environmentally - friendly, health plant foods. Last year the Bragg Health Institute donated thousands of

organic apples to the local school districts which were grown on the Bragg Organic Farm.
