Self-Made Momtrepreneur Wants Everyday to be 'Take Your Child to Work Day' at Crazy K Farm
Hempstead, TX – A Texas business owner has a new twist on take your child to work day. Instead of setting aside one day a year to expose children to what their parents do at work all day, it is Crazy K Farm owner Tobi Kosanke's vision to have all of her contractors and employees either work on site, or from home, so that they can be with their children and show them what they do every day.
A self-made momtrepreneur, Tobi Kosanke is like many working parents these days – she wears several different hats. Along with being a full-time mom, wife, caretaker to a 200+ animal rescue farm, and more recently a motivational speaker, Kosanke is also a long time pet products inventor and award-winning business owner. A few years ago she was forced to leave her successful career as an oil patch geologist after the company she worked for no longer accommodated her need to telecommute in order to care for her special-needs daughter.
"No parent should ever be forced to leave a successful career in order to care for a sick or disabled child, but it does happen and it happened to me in the middle of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression," Kosanke said. "I telecommuted in order to care of an ill child until a manager forced me to choose between my career and my child. I chose my child and returned to my roots, reinventing myself as a stay-at-home momtrepreneur."
For Kosanke, that reinvention meant building her long time hobby of inventing useful products for her own animals into a full-time, home-based business. Her pet products company, Crazy K Farm Pet and Poultry Products LLC
http://www.crazykfarm.com), started as a manufacturer of pre-paid, made-to-order items sold exclusively through her personal eBay account. A lot has changed in just a few short years.
"Today, our products are manufactured by the tens of thousands, and sold to pet owners and retail stores in the United States, Canada, Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia and even Dubai," Kosanke said. "Five people, and myself – four women and two men – have made this company into what it is. All of us work from home, and all but one of us are parents."
"I have always felt that my business is the epitome of a successful mom-owned business. It was originally organized around my child's requirements, and as she began to outgrow the illness that so deeply affected her physical and emotional well-being, so did the business grown and transform, all the while enabling me to fully accommodate my daughter's needs. It is now my goal to enable the people who do work for me to enjoy the flexibility I have had while growing this company and working from home with my daughter by my side. Life is too short. No parents should ever feel that they are missing out on their children's lives."
