A lot of organization was required with several volunteers and the helpful coordination of Julie Phillips an Outreach Specialist. Many others contributed behind the scenes to make the event come together.
Lip Dub performer packages were sent to each participant with instructions. The main rehearsal included knowing the song, Sweet City Woman by the Stampeders.
A lip dub is a type of video that combines lip synching with audio dubbing. This makes a perfect video of music and action. Calgarians voiced the words to the song in unison. Many practiced beforehand. On the day the live rehearsals were recorded by an amazing cameraman. He had to carry the heavy camera equipment while running through the sections. The camera swept by as the action was filmed.
Calgary?s weather was warm but not overly hot; good for running back and forth from each section to the final section for the grand finale.
The final scene was rehearsed several times and recorded in the Olympic Plaza around 3:30 PM.
Road control was organized by the city and a major road closed to assist the producers. MacLeod Trail was closed from 7:00 AM to midnight. Most people took the public transit as the LRT station was nearby. Preparations had been made for the handicapped to join in. The day was for all.
As a volunteer cast member Sherman was delighted to be a part of the music video project. Born in Calgary, she has great pride in her city. She believes that the playful integration of the theme song, Sweet City Woman will demonstrate to others the community-feeling that Calgary exhibits.
The entrepreneurial-volunteer spirit in Calgarians is rooted in the traditional pioneer-spirit to its newest members of the immigrants who viewed this spectacular city as home. So, why not celebrate together in a fun and creative expression of the dreams that this city holds for us and the future.
