Chinese New Year 2010 ?Year of the Tiger? Appeal for Help to Save Wild Tiger from Extinction by Dan Stockdale HARRIMAN, TN ? Dan Stockdale, President and Founder of the non-profit Conservation Alliance for Tigers (
www.Tiger911.org) has issued a global appeal to adults and schoolchildren to join him in his efforts to save the wild tiger from extinction by signing an online petition located at Tiger911.org Stockdale will gather and print the petitions which will be delivered to government officials on February 2, 2011 ? the last day of the ?Year of the Tiger. ?
?The sad reality is we may never again have a ?Year of the Tiger?. The wild tiger is on the threshold of extinction. One hundred years ago 100,000 wild tigers roamed the wild. Today that number has plummeted to a mere 3,500 ? living in fragmented populations? said Stockdale. ?I?m asking adults and schoolchildren from all continents to express their concern for our planet. We must communicate our support and thanks to the governments who are battling to save the wild tiger, and to encourage the governmental agencies to incentivize patrols to stop poaching. ?
Teachers, particularly science teachers, are encouraged to integrate a letter writing campaign into their science curriculum. "We need teachers and students to spread the word through any means possible,? said Stockdale. ?The tigers only hope is to raise enough awareness that officials will take immediate action to save these amazing cats.? The online petition at Tiger911.org can be signed, or individual letters of support or boxes of letters from classes or schools may be submitted on or before January 22, 2011 to:
