NEW ARTICLE: 1980-2012 – A 30+ Year Timeline of Meetings Technology Innovation Technology changes in the past three decades have been astonishing for both the meetings industry and for society in general. To see how far we have come, I put together this chronological list of significant technology milestones with societal technology events in "black" and meetings industry innovations in "red."  These list is far from comprehensive. Send me your major meetings technology milestones to include!

NEW ARTICLE: How To Decide Whether Your Event Needs A Single Or Multi-Event Mobile App Technology changes in the past three decades have been astonishing for both the Like most new technologies, mobile event apps were initially constructed following the pattern of traditional printed conference event guides – every year a new printed guide, so each year a new app was created.
Many organizations hold hundreds or even thousands of events every year.  In some cases a multi-event app can be a far superior and more cost-effective option. The multi-event app allows organizations to provide a single app that holds all events, which saves considerable time on the planning end and requires a one-time download for attendees, whether they attend one event or 10. This article by Patrick Payne, CEO of QuickMobile, covers many of the points to consider.

--Arthur C. Clarke* *Taken from Loren Ekroth Conversation Matters newsletter. SHORT-SIGHTED TECHNOLOGY PREDICTION OF THE MONTH:
Dear Mr. President: The canal system of this country is being threatened by a new form of transportation known as 'railroads' ... As you may well know, Mr. President, 'railroad' carriages are pulled at the enormous speed of 15 miles per hour by 'engines' which, in addition to endangering life and limb of passengers, roar and snort their way through the countryside, setting fire to crops, scaring the livestock and frightening women and children. The Almighty certainly never intended that people should travel at such breakneck speed." -- Martin Van Buren, Governor of New York, 1865(?).
"The cinema is little more than a fad. It's canned drama. What audiences really want to see is flesh and blood on the stage." -- Charlie Chaplin, 1916
