Crisis Management As A Revenue Growth Strategy
From:

Crisis management expert and author Edward Segal was recently on Doug C. Brown's podcast, CEO Sales Strategies, where they talked about crisis management (including why it should be a primary concern for every business), crisis prevention, and the importance of PR. The interview can be accessed at https://lnkd.in/ePgr_eF or wherever podcasts are posted.

Segal is the author of the new book on crisis management: "Crisis Ahead -- 101 Ways to Prepare for and Bounce Back From Disasters, Scandals, and Other Emeregncies" (Nicholas Brealey). "Crisis Ahead" was named one of the best new books to read about crisis management in 2020 and 2021, and rated one of the best books of all time on the subject by Book Authority. "Companies don't generally think of crisis management as a revenue growth strategy, but every time crisis hits, revenue drops in most cases," according to podcast host Brown. "The COVID-19 pandemic taught us rather harshly that the best time to prepare for a crisis was years ago.

"One can argue, of course, that COVID-19 is a fluke and nobody saw it coming, but when you come to think about it, the same thing can be said of most crises. Crisis management expert, PR consultant and journalist Eward Segal distills the art and science of crisis management in his book, Crisis Ahead, which lays out a game plan on how businesses can prevent crisis and deal with it when it comes," Brown said.

"Crisis Ahead" is filled with instructive case studies of how companies and public figures— such as Amazon, Disney, Apple, and entrepreneur Elon Musk—have prepared for and handled crisis situations. "Crisis Ahead"  includes checklists and exercises to help get ready for and react to a crisis, and a customizable crisis management plan.

"The bad news is that it is impossible to prevent every conceivable crisis, emergency, or scandal from striking a company or organization," said Segal. "The good news is that although they can't prevent every possible crisis from occurring, at the very least they can be prepared to confront them. The more they are ready today, the more likely it is that they can come through with flying colors if that scenario becomes a reality tomorrow."

Segal is a highly sought-after speaker and trainer with more than 30 years of experience as a crisis management expert, CEO, public relations consultant, journalist, communications director, and press secretary for members of Congress and political candidates. He has advised more than 500 companies and organizations including Marriott Corporation, Consumer Technology Association, and Ford Motor Company, as well as state and federal agencies including the US Department of the Interior, US Postal Service, and the US Census Bureau.

Segal is now a Leadership Strategy conntributor for forbes.com, where he covers crisis-related news, topics, and issues.
