James DiEugenio writes in his book, Destiny Betrayed, that one of Clay Shaw's secretaries saw David Ferrie in his office. Here is what he wrote: (page 209)

Here is the underlying FBI document:

So, let me get this straight. A neighbor of the informant, who was a news cameraman, told the informant that Aura Lee, in front of various people, had said she had seen Ferrie go into Shaw's office several times. None of these people contacted Garrison's office with this important information. And, Aura Lee did not come forward herself.

So, was "Aura Lee" really Clay Shaw's secretary? We have the trial testimony of Miss Goldie Moore, who was actually Shaw's secretary for 19 years until he retired in 1965,

Miss Moore never saw Clay Shaw with Lee Harvey Oswald:

And, Miss Moore never saw David Ferrie at the International Trade Mart:

And Miss Moore also testified that she never heard Shaw use the pseudonym Bertrand.

So, now we know that "Aura Lee" was not Shaw's secretary - but, of course, she could have filled in during a holiday, no?

Donald Carpenter, in his magisterial biography of Clay Shaw, Man of a Million Fragments: the true story of Clay Shaw, identified the real Aura Lee - and her name is Aurelie Alost. And she worked for the Italian State Tourist Office, which was located in the International Trade Mart.

Aurelie Alost left her job as manager of the Italian Tourist Office in 1963.

Ms. Alost then went to work in one of the hospitals in New Orleans.

There was some communication between Shaw and Alost. Carpenter notes that in 1957 Shaw wrote a letter to Lee thanking her for her work on the United Fund drive. In 1960, Alost wrote Shaw a letter of thanks for "the courtesy he had shown to an out-of-town guest of her office." (page 212)

Alost never came forward with any information about David Ferrie, and no one has ever interviewed her. She probably had nothing to say. You'd never know any of the above information by just reading Destiny Betrayed.
