(Palo Alto, Calif. - June 10, 2009 - Boomerang.com) Research recently revealed that a large percentage of U.K. email marketers fail to follow best practices and therefore run the risk of their messages failing to reach intended recipients. Pointing to a CAN-SPAM Compliance Overview at his blog, email marketing expert David Kearney noted that rules and regulations governing the nature of legally legitimate email have matured this decade, and adherence to them bears considerably on determining whether or not email marketing messages are deliverable. Kearney is CEO of email marketing firm Boomerang.com, whose award-winning email hosting tool was voted in 2008 as "Best Mass Email Tool" by users of salesforce.com.
"Compliance with laws surrounding email marketing is the key to conducting successful email marketing campaigns," said Kearney, who directed readers to a collection of email marketing videos about Boomerang. "Following the rules set forth in CAN-SPAM is a big step in the proper direction for email marketers; the details in CAN-SPAM just so happen to help email marketers fashion effective email campaigns that reach their intended audiences."
A veteran of MIPS Computer Systems and now CEO of Boomerang, Kearney has filled many roles in marketing and engineering for the high-tech industry. Before co-founding the award-winning email marketing firm Boomerang in 1991, he earned an MBA from Cornell University's S.C. Johnson Graduate School of Management. Kearney's articles on email marketing have appeared in business periodicals such as DM News, and publications such as AllBusinesshave quoted him on his email marketing expertise.
A report titled Creating Subscriber Experiences That Maximise Returns for UK Email Marketers has revealed that nearly two-fifths of e-mails sent by email marketers were undeliverable, never making their way to the inbox of the study's author, Return Path. This finding from the study, based on the behavior of 69 email marketers operating from within the United Kingdom, strongly suggested that these email marketers' messages had been identified and filtered as spam.
Email marketers can do a great deal to ensure that their own emails arrive at their intended destinations. Of fundamental interest are the CAN-SPAM Acts of 2003 and 2008, U.S. legislation designed to define not only what is and is not spam, but also what constitutes phishing and other deceptive email practices. An overview of compliance with email marketing legislation is available at Boomerang's email marketing blog.
"While compliance with CAN-SPAM does not preclude a firm from sending spam," said Kearney, "adherence to the guidelines CAN-SPAM provides helps email marketers to avoid the unintended, undesirable consequences of bad email marketing practices. The least of these, frankly, is the undeliverable e-mail; failure to comply can draw the attention of law enforcement."
In 2008, users of salesforce.com gave BlastWizard the most four-star and five-star ratings of any email hosting tool, qualifying Boomerang's product to receive that CRM provider's award of "Best Mass Email Tool." BlastWizard is available for a free email marketing trial. Several companies offer small business email campaign tools. Among them, however, Boomerang is alone in approaching email marketing for small business in a customized, tailored way to create individualized email campaigns for clients. Furthermore, Boomerang's consultants are able to draw on a legacy of experience that the company has with enterprise clients, whose needs for email marketing campaigns have imbued Boomerang with the kind of institutional knowledge that yields best practices.
