Autonomous vehicles crash and cause deaths. A blade the size of a football field flew off a wind turbine off Massachusetts and left debris near one of the wealthiest summer enclaves in the US, Nantucket. Sensitive data are hacked from computers.
All advances have potential adverse consequences. We focus on the benefits, but often subordinate the very possible (or even certain) negatives.
When is the last time you couldn’t find something on your computer that you needed immediately? You don’t think that’s a problem? How many people have you seen pushed off to the side on TSA lines because they’re relying on an electronic boarding pass they can no longer find on their phone? (I always carry a hard copy backup….)
