During a recent interview on the James Lowe Radio Show, Barbara Hemphill, author of Less Clutter More Life, and founder of the Productive Environment Institute, told listeners about a timely free proposal that will allow people to take a step towards organizing their personal and professional lives during the current crisis. A series of edited radio show podcasts, seen below, revealed the main problems people have in organizing, largely emotional, and how to break through such barriers to tackle the most recalcitrant problems again and again.
During the discussion, Barbara told a story of a client who had been stuck on a certain aspect of her organizational work that proved rather troublesome, particularly on an emotional level. Barbara Hemphill, who has been in this line of work for over forty years, told the client to ask the right questions, look at the task from the endpoint in divining a solution that would surely present itself during the process. A creative alternative was discovered which served up a positive organizational and emotional outcome.
Fear is the primary emotion holding humans back from many opportunities for growth and change, leading Hemphill to bang that drum consistently in the podcasts below. Fear of embarrassment, fear of failure, fear of loss, whatever it is, love, respect or money, haunt our waking and sleeping moments constantly. But our brains are geared to prevent us from harm by increasing the fear factor and this, combined with societal pressure, stops millions from taking the risk of proposing a new project, asking someone on a date, telling someone off, demanding a raise, going skydiving, betting it all on the next big idea…or just getting up in the morning and deciding to organize your basement.
Hemphill's Productive Environment Institute is offering a free webinar to introduce the Quarantine Quickstart Program that will assist in breaking through the intellectual and emotional barriers holding you back.
