The Georgetown BID hosted its first holiday music event—Georgetown Jingle on December 7. Throughout the afternoon, there were 10 live music performances spanning across Georgetown, from Patisserie Poupon on Wisconsin Avenue all the way to the newly opened Barnes & Noble on M Street.

Despite the cold, Georgetown was brimming with holiday shoppers. People were stopping on the streets to watch the performances and warm up with holiday treats along the way, like a hot chocolate bar with boozy mix-ins from 1310 Kitchen & Bar, free peppermint brownies and hot apple cider from DIG, and free hot chocolate and ornament-shaped cookies from Tatte. Over 40 art galleries, shops, and salons offered specialty discounts and complimentary in-store beverages and snacks.

The main highlight of the day were the musical performances, ranging from DJ sets to acoustic blues duos. M.M.LaFleur, a woman’s clothing store that opened earlier this year, hosted HumTunes, a duo performing soulful renditions of contemporary pop and alternative hits. Songs from their setlist included Maroon 5’s “Sunday Morning” and Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida.” Creekview Blues, the acoustic blues duo, performed renditions of classic holiday hits in front of L.A. Burdick Chocolates streatery. A crowd gathered to watch as the band gave an upbeat, folksy performance of “Blue Christmas,” with an impressive harmonica solo. Additionally, the award-winning, nationally acclaimed Washington D.C. upper voices a capella group, Capital Blend, sang arrangements of holiday tunes like “Jingle Bells” and “Let it Snow!”

In addition to the musical performances and shopping deals, the Embassy of Sweden held its annual Swedish Holiday Market all day, with Nordic goods and treats. In the evening, the St. Lucia Choir held a procession from the Embassy of Sweden to Washington Harbour at the Georgetown waterfront. At the waterfront, visitors were given samples of non-alcoholic Glögg, a traditional Nordic spiced mulled wine, and a Swedish holiday treat.

The weekend crowds were certainly feeling the holiday spirit, courtesy of Georgetown Jingle. From young children to grandparents, everybody was stopping to appreciate the musical performances and take advantage of the complimentary holiday treats.
