It is one of the most photographed and recognized sites of Georgetown: the iconic golden dome that caps off the PNC Bank at the busy intersection of M Street and Wisconsin Avenue NW.

The bank building is more that a century old and was famously occupied by Riggs Banks for decades. But, alas, its golden dome of late has begun to fade, upsetting residents and visitors alike.

But, fear not, goldsmiths, chrysophilists and everyday people, the dome (or cupola, if you prefer) will soon be shining anew — better than ever.

The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc., based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has ordered the restoration of the dome of the historic bank. Work will soon begin on the delicate process. The scaffolding gives the corner a whole new Instagrammable vibe.
