The athlete who wants to stay healthy and fit will want to check out some apps that I've found effective in following a training schedule and staying on a healthy diet. Because I always have my cellphone with me, I load it with apps that assist me in following my training schedule, maintaining weight training, and making sure my diet requirements are met.

Here are my top 10 choices:

• Navy SEAL Fitness offers a range of physical training exercises, flexibility and cardiovascular health for elite total body fitness. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/navy-seal-fitness/id324155166?mt=8

• Lose It! allows you to track the calories you burn. After inputting your daily calorie budget, tap in what you ate after each meal and Lose It! logs in your calorie count to help you reach your weight goal. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/lose-it/id297368629?mt=8

• Calorie Tracker is a useful free app from Livestrong.com, Lance Armstrong's health and fitness website. Users can look up and track daily caloric, fat, carbohydrate and protein intake. Included is a Daily Plate nutritional database with more than 450,000 food and restaurant items. • 40-30-30 is an App designed to help you achieve the right nutritional balance by quickly calculating the percentage of carbs, protein and fats in your meal.
