Introduction

Dietitian Lisa Andrews joins us in this podcast episode to talk about some tips on staying hydrated this summer! We have had some extreme heat waves these past few weeks, and it’s important to stay healthy, and follow some simple hydration tips! That including is having a special water bottle for yourself, and figure out what your drinking style is. A good tip to know if you are well hydrated or not, is to look at your urine. If it is a dark yellow color, you may not be drinking enough water. Eating healthy foods that are high in water, is amazing as well.

Although staying hydrated is vital year-round, it becomes much more so in the summer months when temperatures rise and physical activity levels rise, potentially causing acute dehydration. Maintaining general health, improving athletic performance, and avoiding heat-related ailments all depend on enough hydration. Here are a few main arguments for why it’s especially crucial to drink plenty of water in the summer.

Controlling Your Body’s Temperature
Hydration is essential for controlling body temperature. Our bodies lose more water through sweat in the summer as we attempt to stay cool. Heat exhaustion or heat stroke may result from our body temperature rising dangerously if we don’t replace this lost fluid. We can stay cool and comfortable by keeping our core temperatures steady through the consumption of adequate water.

Assisting with physical performance
Be it working out, participating in sports, or just spending time outside, maintaining proper hydration is essential for achieving peak physical fitness. Dehydration can impair your performance and raise your risk of injury by causing muscle soreness, cramping, and lightheadedness. Maintaining adequate hydration improves endurance, lubricates your muscles and joints, and sustains your energy levels.

Preserving Vital Body Functions
Water is essential for several body processes, such as circulation, nutrition absorption, and digestion. Our bodies have to work more in the heat to absorb food and keep energy levels up, which emphasizes the need of staying hydrated. Our blood volume stays sufficient for ideal circulation, nutrients are delivered effectively, and our digestive system runs smoothly when we drink enough water.

Avoiding Health Problems
Numerous health issues, including headaches, kidney stones, urinary tract infections, and constipation, can result from dehydration. Severe dehydration may need hospitalization in certain situations. You can avoid these problems and make sure your body works properly all summer long by drinking lots of water.

Enhancing Skin Well-Being
The intense summer heat can strip our skin of its natural moisture, resulting in sunburn, dryness, and other skin problems. By preserving its elasticity and moisture balance, staying hydrated contributes to the health and brightness of our skin. Drinking water also aids in the removal of pollutants, which lowers the risk of acne and other skin issues made worse by perspiration and heat.
