(December 22, 2009) Human Factor International and co-sponsor Columbia Coaching Alliance returned to China following successful events in Mexico City, Bermuda and multiple U.S. cities, with the "Global Executive Coaching Roundtable" at Three on the Bund in Shanghai on Friday, December 11, 2009 at 7:00pm. The event celebrated the one-year mark of HFI's globe trotting series of informative discussions and, based on the successful networking and alliance building results, HFI Managing Director Jeffrey Jones plans to continue the series.
The discussion at the event centered around perceptions of coaching in the Asia-Pacific region, the growing frequency with which Chinese executives are being assigned to overseas posts, and job satisfaction in relation to increasing demands on schedule and performance in the legal profession.
Guests at the Shanghai Roundtable included: Lingzhen Dong, Asia Pacific EH&S Director, Dow Chemical China; Yao Feng, Corporate Culture Director, ZTE Corporation; Morgan Ma, Managing Director, Handen Group; Anna Zhang, Associate Attorney, Paul Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP; Zeng Hang, Reporter, 21st Century Business Herald; Justin Ji, HR Manager-People Development, Moët Hennessy Diageo.
Roundtable hosts included: Jeffrey Jones, Managing Director of Human Factor International, Executive and Transcultural Leadership Coach and multi-linguist with 19 years experience in human resources, training & development, and coaching; Phil Guo, Director of Business Development, Asia Pacific Region, Human Factor International; Thomas Irre, Media Director of Human Factor International.
Anna Zhang, an attorney with Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker noted that, "Jeffrey really understands our business. In addition to speaking eloquent Mandarin, he approaches his work with a global perspective that blends commerce, culture and etiquette." Business Reporter Zeng Hang remarked, "What struck me most was Jeffrey's understanding around the importance of talent development in senior management and executive level in order to meet long-term organizational objectives and create a sustainable succession plan." Phil Guo added, "Short-term market goals can obscure sustainability in terms of human capital. An active program of developing people in your organization enhances retention and enables flexibility in any economic environment." Jeffrey Jones summed up the roundtable saying, "The trend of Chinese executives being posted outside of China is catching up to expatriates relocating here. This is a real opportunity for Chinese corporations to take advantage of the knowledge base that has been developed around creating a smooth transition for an organization's expatriates and their families."
The Global Coaching Roundtable was launched by Human Factor International in December 2008. The first roundtable took place in Shanghai at Three on the Bund with a diverse group of Executives, Entrepreneurs, and HFI Clients. The mission of the initiative is to stimulate a global conversation on coaching and leadership development from a wide and diverse range of viewpoints. The culmination will be the publication of an article sharing the global conversation with the coaching and business communities. A certain number of the events will see participants joining over video conferencing and HFI's Virtual Offices in Second Life. HFI is committed to expanding the reach of coaching through technology and at the same time leveraging this technology to decrease the carbon footprint created by unnecessary business travel.
