International Womens Day
March 5, 2019
On 8th March 2019 it is International Women?s Day
A time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate.
In 2015, Richard McGowan of Emmanuel International Canada and Phil Tanner of CCFC met to discuss ways they could offer aid to mothers enduring appalling conditions in the developing world. They knew through cooperation there would be a multiplier effect with greater reach and the ability to do more in empowering women.
The PROMISE project which came as an outcome from their meeting is now in its third year of four, the success of the work provided through a unique Canadian consortium of charities and undertaken with the financial support of the Government of Canada, has saved and changed the lives of many newborns and mothers in Africa.
In Ghana, Malawi and Rwanda, an integrated approach focusing on training midwives, health-service delivery and utilization, as well as improved nutrition, has changed the lives of families and communities has now led to a dramatic improvement in child mortality rates.
In June 2014, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said, "No woman should die giving life." This is the commitment of the PROMISE Worth Keeping.
PROMISE is a project bound together by the desire to support these women and children. We saw the need for change, and it is our promise to help especially on International Womens Day.
