John Marshall Hosts 54th Annual Intellectual Property Law Conference
The Center for Intellectual Property Law at The John Marshall Law School is hosting the 54th Annual Intellectual Property Law Conference, "Hot Topics and Developments in Patent, Trademark,
Copyright, and Trade Secrets Law," Friday, February 26, at the law school.
Registration for the program begins at 8 a.m., followed by an 8:45 a.m. introduction and welcome by Dean John E. Corkery.
The 9 a.m. panel on "Recent Developments in Intellectual Property Law" will be moderated by Charles W. Shiflley, and will feature panelists Bradley C. Wright, of Banner & Witcoff Ltd. discussing patent law; Mark V. B. Partridge of Pattishall McAuliffe Newbury Hilliard & Geraldson LLP, discussing trademark law; and William H. Frankel, of Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione discussing copyright law; and R. Mark Halligan, of Nixon Peabody LLP, discussing trade secrets law.
The luncheon, held at The Standard Club of Chicago, will feature keynote speaker Hon. David Kappos, under secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and director of the US Patent and Trademark Office in Washington, DC.
The afternoon sessions will be broken into two tracks, with Track 1 focusing on patent issues and Track 2 focusing on trademark, copyright, and related issues.
Panelists for Track 1 include moderator Professor Richard S. Gruner, a professor and director of the center; Debbie K. Wright, chief counsel for Global IP, Open Innovation & Global Supply Chain for Kraft Foods; Edward D. Manzo, of Cook Alex Ltd.; James P. Muraff, of Neal Gerber & Eisenberg LLP; and A. Sidney Katz of Husch Blackwell Sanders Welsh & Katz.
Track 2 will be moderated by center Associate Director William T. McGrath, of Davis McGrath LLC, and will feature panelists John L. Welch, of Lando & Anastasi LLP; David C. Brezina, of Ladas & Perry LLP; Steven Weissman, deputy general counsel of Time Inc.; and Andrew L. Goldstein of Freeborn & Peters LLP.
A 5 p.m. reception follows the afternoon sessions.
General registration is $195 and includes admission to the program, breakfast, lunch, reception, and all course materials. Participants will receive approximately seven hours of CLE credit upon completion. Discounts are available for John Marshall students and members of government, the judiciary, or academia.
