When one thinks of the alluring world of high fashion design and those who dominate the terrain such as industry giants Donna Karan, creator of DKNY, Miuccia Prada, Tom Ford. Ralph Lauren, Yves Saint Laurent for example, visions of riches and glamour easily come to mind. In reality, scaling to the top of the fashion mountain requires talent, creativity, dedication. determination, a stringent work ethic and a few breaks here and there.
Kandace Banks is a young professional who understands the rules of the game and the requirements that accompany it. Having been born in Indiana and reared in Virginia, she developed a winning mindset early in life and set out to achieve goals. Banks is an active stylist to the stars while preparing for the launch of her own clothing line. In addition, she is currently producing a short video series on Tik Tok based on her adventures traversing the entertainment world in New York and Los Angeles.

Banks explains her career beginnings, “I was living in Washington, D.C., while working at a retail clothing store. I couldn’t stand it! Every time I went into work and clocked into my job, I said that I just feel like this chapter of my life is over. I had always wanted to move to New York, I had always wanted to be a fashion stylist. So I had maybe a thousand-dollars saved up in my bank account and my boss told me they were opening up a new location in the financial district of Manhattan. So I asked him if I could transfer locations. They said yes. I went on Facebook and found some girls who were looking for a roommate and I moved to New York.”
After Banks settled in, she worked and saved for six months. When the new year arrived in January, Banks started to DM fashion stylists on Instagram for an internship. She struck gold with famed superstar stylist Shiona Turint who boasts Beyonce as one of her many star clients. Turint said yes and brought Banks onto the team. Needless to say that her retail 9 to 5 gig was in the rear-view mirror.
Banks adds, “I worked for her (Turint), then I worked for a few other stylists. I worked for a lot of people.” When asked what was that like? Banks responds, “It was the most stressful thing I’ve ever done. It was very hectic. It was non-stop. We would be working until maybe 2am. Then we would have to be up at 6am to start sending emails to the fashion houses in Paris and everything else. So, it was non-stop around the clock. Work, work, work! Running around New York on the subway. No money for Ubers. I was carrying garment bags with hundreds of thousands worth of clothes and jewelry on the subway, rain sleet snow, cold, hot, yeah, it was a lot.”
Banks has paid her dues and learned the ropes from working with stars on the set like Brenda Song and KeKe Palmer to name some. Her works have been published in Teen Vogue and Refinery 29. All of this in addition to mastering the mechanics of the biz. Her name is destined to be well known.
