At 9 o’clock in the morning of Wednesday, June 8, 1825, Captain Benjamin C. Cox of the 13th Regimental Cavalry assembled his company along with several carriages and off-duty officers on horseback. They rode west on the old Genesee Road for 9 miles until they reached the county line at Cayuga bridge. There, they waited. And waited.
