Lifesaving Resources is proud to announce the graduates of the 2019 INTERNATIONAL ICE RESCUE INSTRUCTOR ACADEMY, conducted February 21 - 24, in Portland, Maine. The 21 new instructors represented Fire, Rescue, EMS, and Police departments from throughout the U.S. and Canada. The Academy was run in a boot camp-like style with classes conducted from 8 AM to 10 PM daily, with sessions conducted on and through the ice, as well as classroom. The Academy even included a Night Operations session conducted in the dark on a frozen pond in which the rescue squads had to search out, treat, and transport patients back to shore.
The Academy was conducted under the direction of Gerry Dworkin, a professional Aquatics Safety & Water Rescue Consultant for Lifesaving Resources of Kennebunkport, Maine. He was assisted by Bob Shields from the Cumberland Rescue Squad (Rhode Island), Jason Fedler from the Cossayuna Fire Department (New York), and Mike Flynn from the Walpole Fire Rescue Department (New Hampshire).
