Lifesaving Resources completed its 22nd annual INTERNATIONAL ICE RESCUE INSTRUCTOR ACADEMY on Sunday, February 20, graduating 30 new Ice Rescue Instructors. First Responders participated in this grueling, intensive, boot-camp style training Academy from Wisconsin, Washington, South Dakota, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Illinois, Virginia, New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, and Alaska. The graduates will return to their own departments to train other First Responders in Ice Safety & Rescue, and are also encouraged to engage in community-wide education programs on drowning prevention and ice safety. The 4-day Academy, conducted by Lifesaving Resources in Portland, Maine, began on Thursday, February 17 and continued through February 20. The First Responders participated in 13 hours of classroom and 18 hours of instruction on and through the ice during bitter cold temperatures.
