Best hair tips for added volume and shine this season.
With holidays right around the corner, if spirits fall flat - your hair doesn't have to! Gloss & Toss Hair Care and Celebrity Hair Stylist Billy Lowe share great tips to keep hair healthy, stylish and weightless while keeping hair and scalp healthier at the same time.
"Dry Shampoo content has been overdone!" says Lowe, founder and creator of Gloss & Toss Hair Care. "However, 90% of the brands out there have completely overlooked one hot tip that will help hair even more in those in between times. Before uaing Dry Shampoo to revive your style, use 1 or 2 oil blotting papers (or soft tissue) to absorb excess oil or build-up at the scalp area. This helps lift away congestion, oil, environmental build up at the scalp area which can weigh hair down and cause it to be flat and lifeless. Stacking ingredients for the sake of a hair restore is not helpful nor healthy."
"Curl and twirl" mid-sections of hair and stay away from the ends" is Lowe's next tip. "It's not about getting that perfect curl. It's about establishing a little bend in the hair and 'tossing' in alternating curls to create added texture and movement. In other words, alternate forward/backward curl application. Keep heat and time down when adding curls to hair in this manner."
Separate hair! "I can't believe how many hair styles I see with curls that look like they just got off of an iron." says Gloss & Toss artist Stephanie Z. "Hair needs movement, space, and the ability to flow and breathe. I like lots of space in hair. When I see hair pieces (especially extensions) that look like clumps or straw, it's maddening. Keep hair strands separate to allow space and volume. The crispy curl look is not good! Use the Gloss & Toss Detangle Brush to add volume and space in hair. This can be done by working under sections of hair in a light "teasing manner" to add cushion, support and lift to hair styles. It's also great for creating that space in hair that provides extra volume and movement.
Finally, Gloss & Toss artists believe hair should say "Come run your fingers through this!" Lighten up on the sticky hairspray and the waxy, piecey effects that feel like a brillo pad. Keep up with your hair and color appointments but don't strive for that perfect result!
