Will I ever be able to retire? Today, many baby boomers are asking themselves that question, wondering if retirement is more of a dream than a reality.

You can make retirement happen, explained Mark Singer CFP®, in a series of interviews that recently aired on Fox News Radio affiliates around the country. The keys to a successful retirement include asking the right questions, making smart planning decisions and, if necessary, adjusting your retirement expectations.

"Things have changed. The landscape has changed, and we all know that," explained Singer in a conversation with WJBO in Baton Rouge, LA. "That dream retirement we thought we were going to have 10 or 15 years ago probably isn't going to happen. You can't control the markets, and you can't control cost of living."

However, that doesn't mean there aren't steps people can take to better control their retirement future. Two things people can do today to gain control over their finances and prepare for retirement include determining your goals and analyzing your cash flow. Even if retirement seems like a dream, it's important to take control over the things that you are able to manage. "Don't bury your head in the sand," Singer urged listeners of WREC in Memphis, TN. "Do what you need to do to see where you are, and most importantly, what you need to do in terms of making adjustments for the future."
