AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, announces today that Murray D. Einarson has been selected by the National Ground Water Association (NGWA) for its prestigious Technology Award for 2009.

The Technology Award is presented annually to the individual who has made the most significant contribution to the groundwater industry in the development of ideas, tools and equipment; innovative well-construction techniques; the sharing of such developments; and the protection of groundwater resources and the consuming public.

Einarson, principal hydrogeologist in the AMEC Geomatrix office in Oakland, Calif., has more than 25 years of experience in the development, testing and application of innovative approaches and technologies for cost-effective environmental site characterization and remediation.

The award nomination, submitted by Douglas Mackay, Ph.D. of the University of California, Davis, stated that Einarson "lives and breathes his subject, radiates his interest and ideas to others in an infectious manner, is constantly thinking of, and implementing, new approaches to technologies or methods of interpretation of data, and provides valuable insights and energy to those working with him on consulting or research…"

The nomination went on to note Einarson's publication of papers and a book chapter that have influenced groundwater monitoring strategies, his patents for a multi-level monitoring well apparatus and for new soil-sampling techniques, his lectures to various governmental agencies, and his participation in national efforts involving topics such as site assessment tools for underground fuel storage tanks and the characterization of subsurface releases of gasoline containing MTBE.

The award will be presented during the keynote address at the NGWA's Ground Water Expo in New Orleans, La. on Dec. 11 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center's La Louisiane Ballroom.
