In response to the crisis of bullying across the country inside and outside of America's schools, UPstander International Director Omekongo Dibinga has released a new song entitled "Bullies" (listen for free here). As a rapper, Omekongo was frustrated with not hearing much from the hip-hop community on this crisis. Furthermore the song looks at bullying from three different perspectives: a gay student being bullied, a school principal, and an actual bully.
Says Omekongo of this song: "As a former bullied student, it pains me to see bullying escalate to the level it has in the form of physical bullying, as well as cyber-bullying. As a rapper, I wanted to show that this is an issue I hope more rappers and entertainers in general will take a stand on. Lastly, I wanted to include the perspectives of a bully and a school leader because, particularly in the case of the bully, there is a perspective that needs to be heard. We have to be upstanders and not bystanders on this issue. There is no middle ground."
Omekongo is the UPstander. He is an award-winning artist who uses his skills as a speaker, poet, and musician to inspire positive change across the globe.
